"Can you help me get bookings and market my cars?"
It's the question we hear more than any other from hosts setting up their own site. And it's the right question. A booking site is half the job. The other half is getting renters to find it, trust it and book.
You don't need a big ad budget or a marketing degree. Most direct bookings come from a few simple habits done well. Here's how.
What is a direct booking?
A direct booking is a renter booking your car on your own site, or by contacting you, instead of through a marketplace. You set the price and you get to know your renters.
The fee changes too. On a $1,000 booking, Turo takes about $250. On a direct booking through your own site, that money stays with you, less card processing fees.
Why are direct bookings hard to get at the start?
Because nobody knows your business exists yet. On a marketplace, renters come to you. On your own site, you bring them in, and the early ones take the most work.
3 things usually hold hosts back:
No way to be found. A site with no Google listing, no reviews and no links pointing to it is invisible.
No reason to trust you. A renter is handing you a deposit and their weekend. They want real photos, clear prices and proof that other people have rented from you.
Too many steps. If booking means a phone call, a text thread and a payment app, many renters give up halfway.
Fix those 3 and the bookings start to follow. The steps below take each one in turn.
6 steps to more direct bookings
1. Make your car rental website easy to book
Your site is your shop window. Before you market anything, make sure a renter can go from "this looks good" to "booked and paid" in a few minutes, on a phone.
Real photos of each car, taken in daylight, inside and out.
The full price shown up front, including deposits, delivery and mileage rules.
Online booking and payment, so renters don't have to call or text to reserve.
Your pickup area, your hours and how to reach you, on every page.
Send your site to a friend who has never seen it and watch them try to book. Every question they ask is something to fix.
2. Get on Google with a Business Profile
When people search "car rental near me", Google shows a map with local businesses. A free Google Business Profile is how you get on that map.
Fill in every field: your business name, service area, hours, phone number, website link and photos of your cars. Pick the category that fits your business best. Then keep it active by adding new photos and answering questions. A profile that looks active gets more clicks than one set up once and forgotten.
3. Collect reviews from day one
Reviews are the fastest way to earn a stranger's trust. After every direct trip, send a short thank-you message with a link to leave a Google review. One sentence, one link.
Reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm and friendly voice. Future renters read your replies as closely as the reviews.
4. Partner with local businesses that meet renters
Plenty of businesses talk to people who need a car. Most would be happy to recommend a reliable local host.
Body shops and repair garages: people need something to drive while their own car is in the shop.
Small hotels and vacation rentals: guests ask the front desk where to rent a car.
Wedding and event planners: they need special cars or extra cars on a set weekend.
Real estate agents and relocation companies: people moving to town often need a car for a few weeks.
Drop by in person with a simple card that has your website and a code for a small discount on the first trip. One good partner can send you renters for years.
5. Turn happy renters into repeat renters
The easiest booking to get is the second one from a renter who already booked with you. Keep a list of every renter who booked with you directly, with their permission to contact them, and stay in touch a few times a year.
A short message before a holiday weekend, or a thank-you discount on their next direct trip, is often all it takes. Add a referral offer too: a friend who books gets a small discount, and so does the renter who sent them.
One rule to follow: renters who book your car on Turo are Turo's renters for that trip. Follow Turo's policies, keep those trips on Turo and build your direct list from renters who find you on your own site, your Google profile and your partners.
6. Post where your local renters already are
Car rental marketing on social media works best when it's local and real. Short videos of a car being cleaned, a handoff at the airport or a new car joining your lineup do better than polished ads.
Pick 1 or 2 channels you'll keep up, such as Instagram and a local Facebook group, and post a few times a week. Always link back to your site so interest turns into bookings.
How long until direct bookings start coming in?
It depends on your market, but expect weeks, not days. Your Google profile and reviews take time to build, and partners take a few visits before they send you anyone.
Track where every direct booking comes from: Google, a partner, a repeat renter or social media. After 1 or 2 months you'll see which channel works in your area, and you can spend more time there.
What mistakes should I avoid?
Paying for ads before your site is ready. Clicks that land on a confusing booking page waste money.
Hiding the real price. Surprise fees at checkout lose bookings and earn bad reviews.
Slow replies. Renters often contact more than one business. The host who answers first usually gets the trip.
Trying every channel at once. Do a few things well before you add more.
Where 1Now fits
1Now gives you your own booking site, payments and automations, so renters can book your cars directly and pay online. Plans start at $150 a month, and we take no cut of your direct bookings. Card processing fees still apply.

Quick answers
Can I take direct bookings if I also rent on Turo?
Yes. Many hosts rent on Turo and take direct bookings on their own site at the same time.
Do I need to pay for ads to get direct bookings?
No. A complete Google Business Profile, steady reviews, local partners and repeat renters bring in most early bookings. Ads can help later, once you know your site turns visitors into bookings.
Should my direct price be lower than my Turo price?
It can be. Turo takes about 25% of every booking, and 1Now takes no cut of your direct bookings. So you can offer a slightly better price on your own site and still earn more per trip.
What is the most important step?
Make booking easy. A clear site with real photos, full prices and online payment turns the renters you attract into bookings.
The bottom line
Direct bookings come from being easy to find, easy to trust and easy to book. Start with your site and your Google profile, ask every renter for a review and build a short list of local partners and repeat renters.
